Journalgyaw Ma Ma Lay
Born 1916 in Kamakalu village, Pyapon district; daughter of U Pya Cho, Manager, Daw son's Bank, Bogale, Pyapon district and Daw Kwe; began her literary career in 1937; Publisher and Managing Editor, "Weekly Thunderer" established by her husband, the late U Chit Maung; also Publisher and Managing Editor, "People's Forum Daily" and "Literary Journal; won the Sarpay Beikman Literary Award for her novel "Not Because of Hatred" 1955; Life member, Burma Writers’ Association; President, Burma Writers’ Association 1955; Vice-president, World Peace Congress (Burma) since 1954; Head of the Secretariat, Writer’ Literary Club, 1961-62; member, Burmese Cultural Delegation, U.S.S.R., October 1952; member, Burma Writers’ Delegation, Asian Writers' Conference, India; member, Burmese Cultural Mission, People's Republic of China; delegate, Anti-Atomic Bomb Peace Conference, Hiroshima; Japan, August 1958. Married U Aung Ze Ya; one daughter, two sons by first marriage.
