Bre
The Bre are a small Karen sub-group in the Karaenni area. The term is often use to refer to tow closely related groups, the Kayaw and Minoo-Minnaw. Indeed, the sheer diversity of Karen peoples in this regoin has led some scholars to suggest that the remote mountains around the western Karenni borders were the original Karen heimat, where Karen cultures diversified and evolved. Many Bres prefer to remain deep in the hills, and this cautious behaviors is thought to stem from a time in their history when slave-raiding by outside peoples was commonplace.
Bre territory, like much of the Kayah State, has suffered badly in recent warfare.
