Myeik
Myeik also known as Mergui is a pearl of Archipelago of Taninthargyi state which consist of over eight hundred islands. Myeik sits on a peninsula that juts out into Adam Sea.
The British occupied the region following the first Anglo-Burmese war in 1826. The Japanese invaded in 1941 and it become part of independent Myanmar after 1948.
Inhabitant of Myeik speak a special dialect of Bumrese language.
Myeik use to be a major trading center for trading between Thailand and Myanmar during 1960 to 1990. It exports tin, tungsten, dried fish, dried prawns, Ngapi or fish paste, salt and rubber.
