Sule pagoda


Description: 2000 years old pagoda at center of yangon city


Sule Pagoda - thought to be 2000 years old is located at the center of Yangon city. British use it a symbol of city center when they rebuild the city around 1880. It is surrounded by government building and shopping center.

The octagonal shape pagoda is said to contain a strand of Buddha hair. Its "Mon" name Kyaik Athok literally translates into "the pagoda that enshrined the Sacred Hair".
