Yangon
Yangon, formerly known as Rangoon, is the largest city in Myanmar (Burma). Until 2005, it was the capital of Myanmar (though in everyone’s eyes – it still is the capital of Myanmar today). The city is located at lower part of Myanmar where Yangon and Bago rivers converge at the Gulf of Martaban.
Yangon has a lot of interesting palaces. Downtown Yangon is crowded with narrow streets that are bustling with streets vendors and food shops. It is a good place to do shopping if you are not afraid of crowded streets and haggling (of course, you should always be mindful of pick-pocketers). For tourist, it is best to hire tour driver that is acquainted with local driving and the area. Driving in Yangon is very challenging; roads are crowded with cars, people, and bicycles where none of them seem to follow any rules. Hiring a taxi can be tricky in Yangon as well. The taxi driver might name any price he wants judging on the rider.
